Julius Konrad Hentschel was one of the most important exponents of Art Nouveau at MEISSEN. With his famous "Hentschel Children", he not only created coveted collector's items, but also a group of figurines that marked a significant turning point in the manufactory's artistic development in terms of expression, style, and motif. The services and objects that he designed are somewhat less well-known. The "Art Nouveau clock with helianthemum" from 1897 - a first-time reissue as part of the 2019 "Limited Masterworks" collection - is an excellent example of the objects of everyday use designed by the artist. In a style typical of the period, Hentschel excelled in expertly combining form and function. The organic shapes, muted pastel tones, and a topical inclination towards nature and mysticism are all in line with the spirit of the times. Brilliant highlights are set selectively in the red hair of the nymph and the real gold clock face in the shape of a sunrose - the flower that gives the piece its name. With his opulent Art Nouveau clock, Hentschel has given us a wistful glimpse into a bygone era, prompting admiration time and time again.
