Over a period of 50 years, internationally renowned painter Heinz Werner created nearly 100 decorative designs and countless paintings for MEISSEN. As part of the 2019 "Limited Masterworks" collection, the manufactory is paying homage to his many years of dedication with the "Wave Dance" wall paintings, which feature original paintings by Werner transferred to porcelain.

In the artist’s signature style, the painting exemplifies a sense of merriment while also capturing his dynamic painting process, during which the images develop almost intuitively. In Werner's own words, porcelain is meant to be playful. Colours flow together with expert brushstrokes, lines and dots are arranged to create lively, highly suggestive motifs. The unique nature of a fleeting moment is impressively captured through gestures, colours, and composition. A number of different painting techniques are required to translate these works to porcelain: Blue under-glaze paint, which is applied directly to the unfired biscuit, is used to create dynamic wave-like shapes and curves; red and orange in-glaze paints are applied separately and fired at high temperatures, which allows them to merge with the glaze, creating a unique brilliance. Then, in the on-glaze painting step, the final artistic touches are applied en detail and the piece is fired one last time. In the final step, the porcelain painter applies platinum engraving to round out the piece with gleaming accents.
