The elephant has the strongest charisma with the towering, filigree obelisk - as a symbol of wisdom and life. His tense posture speaks for the strength, concentration and wisdom attributed to him by all cultures of the world. Western antiquity saw in him the mount of the god Mercury because of his intelligence. In Asia and Africa it symbolizes wisdom, peace and happiness. In the Greek and Roman regions, its gentleness and helpfulness are also emphasized. And because of its longevity, it is widely regarded as a symbol of overcoming death. In Baroque Saxony, the significance of sculpture could be summed up even more: as a homage to Augustus the Strong and his son, who, by combining power and wisdom, initiated an economically and culturally unknown period of prosperity in the Principality of Saxony.
