Proud indeed is the bearing of this female bust, a declaration of love by Meissen Modeller-in-Chief Jörg Danielczyk both to the beauty of perfect forms and to White Gold®. The plethora of captivating artistic items he has created in his 47-year career with the Meissen Manufactory testify to his immense experience and dexterity in handling this recalcitrant moulding material. He is constantly probing the potential and limitations of porcelain as a material for modern sculpture not only in representational, richly detailed works such as “Saxonia”, the largest free-standing porcelain statue in the world, but also in the abstract domain. Through the play of voluptuous curves and perfectly incorporated angles and corners, Danielczyk invests his female torso with more than just an elegant bearing. Her slightly tilted head appears almost lifelike in conjunction with her slender neck and narrow shoulders. Porcelain painter Michaela Stocker by turn makes superb play of augmenting the magisterial formal design with her own decoration. She fuses brilliant colours into fanciful patterns, creates winning effects through the nuancing and intermingling of colours and with such means underscores the sculpture’s vibrancy. Her paintwork caresses a shoulder like a silk scarf, draws one’s gaze towards the figure’s breasts and emphasizes her waist. This utterly modern object equates to a perfect symbiosis of the two principal ingredients in great MEISSEN® porcelain art – sculpture and painting.
