The manufactory's first golden age began in the mid-18th century with Johann Joachim Kaendler. Under his aegis, for more than 40 years, the porcelain manufactory created groundbreaking porcelain sculptures and services and established Meissen s reputation across Europe. In 1739 he created the "Snowball Blossoms", his most important decorative motif. For 280 years, it has been a fixture of Meissen's repertoire and has been used time and again on a variety of vessels.

For the 2019 "Limited Masterworks" collection, a snake-handled vase designed by Carl Schon - heit in 1781 has been embellished with Kaendler's delicate "Snowball Blossoms". The original snake handles are adorned with skilfully applied gold accents that highlight their characteristic features and lend the vase a paradisical symbolism as they emerge from the lush sea of blossoms. A classic motif, which was created on the basis of a copper engraving from the manufactory's own archives, is framed by the vase's medallion. It offers the viewer a glimpse of the famous "Canaletto view" of Baroque-era Dresden, the same time period in which the "Snowball Blossoms" were first created. The combination of opulent sculptural decor and highly demanding painting is a testament to the skills of Meissen's master artisans.
